CHATEAU CARDOUX is listed as
an Historical Residence of Character of the Dordogne
valley. It is situated on the chalky wooded hillsides which overlook the Dordogne valley.
On the river’s left
bank it sits east-south-east of Lalinde, on the departmental road D8E4, on
the way to Molières, in a huge “sea of woods”. It is one
of the main properties of the SAINT-EXUPERY’s.
The château’s
foundations date back to the 13th century and possibly even earlier. In the
15th century its military architecture was restructured due to changes in
weaponry. In the 18th and 19th centuries serious alteration work
transformed it into what it is today.
The château came into
the Saint-Exupery family when, in 1734, Suzanne de Beaudet married
Etienne-Jacques de Saint-Exupery, born 1715.
Since this dowry was given by
Joseph de Beaudet (through his wife, Catherine de Montalembert) for the
marriage of their daughter Suzanne, the Château de Cardoux has
remained in the Saint-Exupery family - which means that it has been in the
family for than 273 years.
